Last month, LinkedIn announced it will start “Aggregating U.S. Job Listings.” What does that mean? In short, it’s another job board. The program was set to start in early June, where LinkedIn will feature collected job postings from other job boards or career sites and will only be available for LinkedIn members.
LinkedIn has named the program “Limited Listings,” and it’s different than LinkedIn’s other paid programs. For now the program is for free. The company’s recent statement about the Limited Listings program said it’s “targeting a very different group of candidates. They only go to active candidates … Candidates who are looking for jobs.”
Like SimplyHired and Monster, LinkedIn is looking to venture into the job aggregator market.
What does that mean for Job Seekers?
In truth, the exciting part about this news for job seekers is more and more access to a free platform to apply for positions. Instead of a job seeker, searching several boards, they may be able to find better results searching LinkedIn’s Limited Listing. The company stated they anticipated their job postings will double with this job posting “to about 700,000 with this new feature.” Forbes stated in recent post, that they “estimate that the total addressable market for LinkedIn in terms for job listings could be somewhere between 3 million and 6 million.” Wow! That’s a ton of postings for job seekers.
What about Employers though?
The good news, LinkedIn membership will most likely increase and employers will be able to post their job opportunities under a significant umbrella platform. Realistically, with that many job postings, the concept of finding the right candidate may get lost. Recruiters and hiring managers will need to proactively craft their job listings and aggressively search to properly identify and connect with the right talent. We predict employers may need to revamp their internal hiring/recruiting processes to screening applicants properly. Having access to more can bring excess which many not always be a good thing. More applicants applying for positions, will require methodical, intelligent work to reveal the right candidate for a position.
